Argireline

Peptide that relaxes facial muscles to reduce expression lines.

Also known as: Acetyl hexapeptide-8, Argireline, Vialox

What it is
Argireline is a synthetic hexapeptide (six amino acids) designed to mimic the N-terminal portion of SNAP-25, a protein involved in neuromuscular signaling. It works topically to modulate muscle contraction at the dermal-epidermal interface.
What it does
Argireline inhibits acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction, reducing repetitive muscle contractions that cause dynamic wrinkles—particularly on the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes. Over 2–4 weeks of consistent use, it can soften expression lines and prevent their deepening. The effect is gentler and more gradual than injectable botulinum toxin.
The evidence
Moderate clinical evidence supports its efficacy for reducing dynamic wrinkles; multiple peer-reviewed studies show 15–30% improvement in fine lines after 4–8 weeks of twice-daily application. Evidence is strongest for crow's feet and forehead lines; results are modest compared to injectables but non-invasive.
Best for
Patients seeking a non-invasive alternative to Botox, those with mild-to-moderate dynamic wrinkles, and anyone wanting preventive anti-aging without needles.
Pairs well with
Retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and peptide blends; works synergistically with other collagen-boosting or antioxidant actives.
Use cautiously with
No major conflicts; however, combining with other neuromuscular-modulating peptides (e.g., high-dose SNAP-25 mimetics) is unnecessary and untested.
Cautions
Generally well-tolerated; rare sensitivity or mild irritation in sensitive skin. Not recommended during pregnancy (limited safety data). Results are temporary and require ongoing use; discontinuation reverses effects within weeks.
